Printed, folded-paper program from the very first stage production of The Who's rock-opera, "Tommy", from 1971. The director, Joel Rosenzweig, a USC student, crafted this production as his master's thesis under the guidance of his mentor Nina Foch, an Oscar-nominated actress who taught classes at the School of Cinematic Arts. Variety magazine credits the five performances of his show from March 30th to April 3rd in 1971 as, "the world premiere staging of The Who’s rock opera 'Tommy.'" This paper program was handed out to attendees of those 5 shows. Again, according to Variety, "all subsequent productions of the iconic rock album (both on stage and screen) adhered closely to that original libretto by the onetime USC drama student."
