Milestone Records was founded in 1966 by Orrin Keepnews and Dick Katz in New York City. Keepnews was previously co-founder of Riverside Records with Bill Grauer, however when Riverside eventually filed for bankruptcy around 1964, Keepnews found a new partner and launched Milestone.
