Sir Hamilton Harty conducting Hallé Orchestra Concert Programmes, 1928 and 1933

The 1928 concert opens with a work requiring a large orchestra, written by R Strauss, only 15 years previously. The suite from Kodaly's opera Hary Janos was only a year old, all of which goes to show Harty was not afarid to include modern works.
