John Coltrane's only release for Blue Note, this 1957 session stands as one of the great bop records. On Blue Train, his soaring saxophone is front and centre, lifted even higher by the brilliant brass work of Lee Morgan and Curtis Fuller. It may be less exploratory than some of Coltrane's later music, but that is part of what makes it such a vital listen. Blue Train remains one of the most influential LPs in jazz history, and for good reason.
